Perfectionism doesn’t work, unforunately

Being a perfectionist is one of the worst ways of losing your productivity. Doing the task or project is way more important than thinking about doing them.

It's been six months, almost to the day since I made my last video.
00:00 --> 00:03

And partly it's because I'm a perfectionist. Now,
00:03 --> 00:08

I know that's not a good thing.
00:08 --> 00:09

I don't think being a perfectionist is actually good for productivity because
00:09 --> 00:14

you're trying to get everything right before you start anything,
00:14 --> 00:19

having a goal and having a task and doing that project perfectly is different to
00:19 --> 00:24

being a perfectionist. Now, if you're a perfectionist,
00:24 --> 00:29

things kind of get put off this past year. I've been busy personally,
00:29 --> 00:34

so I haven't really been working so much. And in the past six months,
00:34 --> 00:38

I've been dealing with my car and rebuilding it and making sure it's ready to
00:38 --> 00:43

be on the road.
00:43 --> 00:44

And it's been really difficult for me to get back into the saddle to actually
00:44 --> 00:51

make these videos. And I've been thinking about doing it differently.
00:51 --> 00:55

I've been thinking about making it a vlog style and nothing seemed to work
00:55 --> 01:00

because of that perfectionism within me,
01:00 --> 01:05

if that's such a word. Um, so I didn't kind of get started.
01:05 --> 01:09

I kind of put it off from one day to the next and I, I didn't do it,
01:09 --> 01:12

but I kind of woke up one day literally thinking, as I said,
01:12 --> 01:18

doing the task is much better than doing it perfectly.
01:18 --> 01:23

If you think about all the videos I've made, I don't produce them.
01:24 --> 01:27

I don't overproduce them. I don't,
01:27 --> 01:29

all the ums and ahs are actually in there. If I make a mistake,
01:29 --> 01:33

they're left in there. And I wanted to change that.
01:33 --> 01:37

And that I think was the issue with me trying to figure out how to do it rather
01:37 --> 01:42

than getting off my ass and actually doing it. I love making videos.
01:42 --> 01:48

I love talking a lot.
01:48 --> 01:50

And many of you know that I talk a lot and talk too much.
01:50 --> 01:53

Maybe and making videos is something that I love doing.
01:53 --> 01:57

I can do this every day. And in fact, I will be doing it every day. Um,
01:57 --> 02:02

but again, when you're,
02:02 --> 02:03

when you stop something and then you try to get that run up to do it,
02:03 --> 02:08

that run up that the perfectionist in me kind of took over and try to make
02:08 --> 02:13

everything correct. Um,
02:13 --> 02:18

before I actually put the camera on started recording.
02:18 --> 02:22

So having that task and being productive is way more beneficial than thinking
02:23 --> 02:28

that you're going to get it right. First time.
02:28 --> 02:33

If you go back, look at my videos, there were,
02:33 --> 02:36

I should take them off off the air, but they're so bad,
02:36 --> 02:41

but you learn from it. And when you learn from it,
02:41 --> 02:45

it's like getting on the bike. Um,
02:45 --> 02:47

it's like getting on back on the saddle, getting on a bike and riding again,
02:47 --> 02:50

you'll never forget how to ride a bike. And for me,
02:50 --> 02:53

it's the same with making videos. You never forget how to make videos.
02:53 --> 02:55

So yeah,
02:55 --> 02:58

get on with what you need to do and stop thinking about what other people are
02:58 --> 03:03

going to be thinking. Anyway, if you've got this video via email,
03:03 --> 03:07

reply to that email, let me know what you think.
03:07 --> 03:10

It'd be great to get some feedback, your feedback. Um,
03:10 --> 03:14

if you're watching this on a website somewhere,
03:14 --> 03:17

there'll be a link somewhere to have a chat. Um,
03:17 --> 03:20

it'd be good to know how you deal with it as well. Anyway,
03:20 --> 03:24

till next time tomorrow, I'll see you then. Ciao.
03:24 --> 03:28
